Prisoner found dead, bruised in Hubei jail
THE body of a severely bruised male prisoner was found in the Detention House in Shishou City in central China's Hubei Province early yesterday.
The relatives believed that the prisoner, Yao Junkai, suffered violent beatings before his death.
Hubei police is investigating the case but the cause of his death will only be revealed once the postmortem is completed, Beijing news reported.
Yao's relatives were informed of his death at 2am. They found him wearing only a pair of short pants, with black and blue bruises all over his head and 30 to 40 cigarette burn marks over his legs.
Yao was jailed for one year for intentional injury on December 22 last year. He appealed the ruling and the second trial was due to start on September 2.
