Quake survivor lied about her teacher's heroic deed
THE family of a heroic teacher who reportedly sacrificed his life to save four students in the Sichuan Earthquake must be embarrassed when one survivor admitted fabricating the whole story.
The 18-year-old student Liu Hongli said her survival had nothing to do with Tan Qianqiu who stood far away and didn't have time to reach them when their school building in Hanwang Town collapsed in the 8.2-magnitude earthquake on May 12, 2008.
Two of the four surviving students Tan saved by shielding them with arms in early reports were invented, while another has died in the quake, Shanghai Morning Post revealed today.
Liu said she felt confused when a Hong Kong journalist asked her to say something about Tan after she woke up in hospital, so she made up the story on an impulse, the newspaper said.
