Ship overturns, 2 dead and 7 missing
Two children have died and seven others were missing after a cargo ship overturned in Yangtze River off the coast of Zhenjiang in Jiangsu Province 2:25am this morning.
The cargo ship, Changqing 16, which anchored at Zhenjiang port overturned and sank early this morning. A total of 24 people who were aboard the ship all fell into the river.
Seventeen have been found by 5am, but two children died later despite rescue efforts, local maritime authority said.
More than 10 ships were dispatched to the site to join the rescue mission. Other ships anchored in the area were also notified to look for survivors.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Changqing 16, loaded with 10,168 tons of iron minerals, arrived at Zhenjiang from Majishan Island.
