Stolen bike disrupts tour
A JAPANESE cyclist on a round-the-world tour was astonished to find his bicycle stolen during his short stay in Wuhan City, central China's Hubei Province, preventing him from continuing his journey.
Kawagen Keiichiro is desperately looking for the bicycle on which he has traveled across a dozen countries, and has pleaded with the thief to return his two-wheeler so he can continue with his odyssey, Hubei TV news reported.
"My bicycle is my dearest love, my girlfriend and my close friend. I want to find it," he said in the news program.
Keiichiro told reporters that he rode to Wuhan about three weeks ago but lost his "precious" bicycle during a trip to the city's famous pedestrian street last Thursday. As vehicles are not allowed to enter the street, they decided to park the bike at the entrance.
"The old parking fee collector told us to leave the bicycle against the wall and asked us to get back before 8pm," said a woman surnamed Wang, the Japanese cyclist's friend.
But it was 8:30pm when they got back from the pedestrian street and Keiichiro was stunned to find his bike missing, the TV news said.
They immediately reported to police and went to see the parking fee collector, but he said he got off work at 8pm.
Keiichiro said that the bicycle, modified for his world tour, could cost around 13,000 yuan (US$2,065).
