Student gets 12-year jail for disfiguring girlfriend

TAO Rukun, a high school student who set fire to a girl he suited in vain, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for intentional injury by a court in Hefei City, capital of eastern Anhui Province this afternoon.
Tao, 17, looked calm during the sentence. His classmate Zhou Yan who was disfigured by burns didn't appear in the court, a local news website, 365jia.cn, reported.
"I'm so disappointed with the result," Zhou's father said after the court verdict and said he would appeal.
The court held a closed-door hearing for about nine hours in April.
Hospital officials said Zhou suffered 32 percent burns and lost one ear.
