Suspect in fatal central China bank explosion captured
A MAN suspected of causing an explosion in central China's city of Wuhan earlier this month was arrested around noon today, local police said.
Wang Haijian was arrested on suspicion of causing an explosion near a China Construction Bank branch in Wuhan's Hongshan district on December 1, leaving two people dead, one of them a 13-year-old girl, and 15 injured.
Wang confessed he planned the explosion in an attempt to hijack a money transport vehicle, Xinhua news agency reported today.
He was captured at a hospital in Wuhan. Police were engaged in further investigations.
Preliminary police investigations found that unknown objects piled on the sidewalk in front of the bank's gate had caused the explosion.
The bank said the money transport van was not damaged in the blast and drove away from the scene. No cash went missing during the incident.
