TV series ordered to exclude same-sex romance, reincarnation, extramarital affair contents
TV series in China are required to exclude contents involving same-sex romance, extramarital affairs, one-night stands and underage love, according to the new guidelines issued by the China Television Production Committee of the China Alliance of Radio, Film and Television and China Television Drama Production Industry Association.
According to the new guidelines, TV dramas should not portray "uncommon sexual relationships and sexual behaviors" such as same-sex romance and "unhealthy marriage values" such as extramarital affairs and one-night stands.
Additionally, sequences depicting superstitious and feudal ideas, such as reincarnation and witchcraft are prohibited from television screens.
Weird criminal cases and detailed crime investigation scenes are also not allowed to be shown to preventing inspiring criminals.
The guidelines also said that behaviors which have bad influences on juveniles should be prohibited from television screens, such as underage love, smoking, drinking and fighting.
Sina.com.cn reported that officials from China's broadcast regulator, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television said the guidelines are also applicable to online series, whose contents will receive stricter 24-hour supervision.
