Toddler meets her savior
The woman who saved the life of a toddler falling from her 10th floor apartment met the little girl today for the first time since the accident.
Over two months ago, Zhang Fangyu, better known as Niu Niu, fell from the window of her apartment in Hangzhou but her fall was broken when Wu Juping rushed to catch her.
Today, both Wu and Niu Niu were allowed to leave hospital for a few hours for the Mid-Autumn Festival, a traditional time for family reunions.
The two met at Niu Niu's home, and Wu gave the girl a jade pendant, which in traditional Chinese culture symbolizes safety.
Niu Niu is recovering so well that she is almost at the stage when she can leave hospital, said Yan Wei, her doctor at the No. 2 Hospital of Zhejiang University's School of Medicine.
"Her vision has become normal, and she can walk on her own for hundreds of meters," said Yan. "Niu Niu is in the fifth phase of treatment, and the time when she can leave the hospital will be assessed after this phase of treatment."
Wu who suffered fractures to her left arm is expected to leave hospital by the end of the month.
