University's fengshui course vanishes
A CONTROVERSIAL Fengshui course in a central China university has disappeared from the elective course list in the new semester.
Ma Wei, who taught the 18-lesson course at the Zhongnan School of Wuhan University of Science and Technology, is now teaching United States Culture instead, according to the Changjiang Daily report today.
University authorities canceled the course when the school came under criticism. Fengshui was regarded as a superstition in China after the 1949 liberation.
The practice of fengshui is said to use the laws of heaven and earth to improve one's life by increasing positive energy, or qi.
The goal is to achieve harmony with one's environment (usually referring to homes or offices.
About 80 students enrolled in the course in first half of last year, and 130 showed up in the second half.
When media revealed the course in October, education authorities started to investigate. Most of the students taking the course were from the faculty of architecture.
