Xinjiang police bust illegal Quran teaching center
Police rescued 54 children from an illegal Quran teaching center and arrested three suspects this morning in Hotan Prefecture in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
During the operation, suspects set off explosives and triggered a blaze, which burned 12 children, a local news portal reported. The injured children are being treated in a local hospital.
Two of the suspects and three police officers were also injured.
A preliminary investigation found the suspects illegally gave Quran lessons and resorted to violence to resist law enforcement officers, the website said.
