Mahjong players deal on as fellow dies
MAHJONG players in Chengdu City showed how addictive the game could be when they left an old man to die at the table and continued playing.
A video clip of the incident has sparked online criticism as the players were seen carrying on their game as emergency services rushed in, tried to revive him and then declared him dead.
The victim, in his 70s, was a regular player at the teahouse in southwest China.
Those at the same table called the ambulance after he fainted and collapsed. Players on the next table, only centimeters away from the man's body, did not bother to lift their eyes until the man was wheeled away by a funeral car.
The video showed the man's daughter rush in and start screaming and crying. People gathered around and the teahouse became crowded - but still the diehards played on.
