As a foreigner who has resided in Shanghai for the past six years, it鈥檚 hard not to be aware of the Double 11 or Singles Day online shopping extravaganza for which buyers enjoy discounts on millions of products. I don鈥檛 regard myself as a big shopper but I鈥檓 looking forward to it nevertheless.
Taobao is super convenient. I use it to buy everything from toilet paper to rice, but most of the time I use it to purchase dog and cat food for my six pets. The more I use Taobao, the more addicted I become 鈥 no doubt because it saves me the hassle of schlepping to a supermarket, a real chore.
In fact, Taobao is so convenient that it鈥檚 almost scary. It remembers all previous orders, so if I want, say, a crate of pet food, I click on the previous order and within two seconds the new order is placed, and delivered the next day.
I might as well avail myself of the chance to enjoy savings on Singles Day, so named because it occurs on the 11th day of the 11th month, and also because 11.11 represents single figures. Discounts vary, but on average you can save at least 33 percent.
Like I said, I鈥檓 no big shopper, but you can rest assured I鈥檒l be shopping on November 11. Heck 鈥 an order of 1,000 yuan (US$156.5) worth of pet food will save me a small fortune.
