Ambulances carry paint not patients
ON November 29, an ambulance that broke down, sirens wailing, on a highway in Zhejiang Province was found to be carrying paints rather than patients.
The ambulance belongs to a private clinic in Yongjia County, Zhejiang Province.
According to the clinic, as the ambulance was infrequently used, they asked the driver surnamed Zhang to carry barrels of paints back with the ambulance.
At any rate, Zhang was wrong to turn on the sirens when there was no emergency.
Article 53 of the Law on Road Traffic Safety says: "When a police car, fire engine, ambulance or engineering emergency vehicle is not performing any urgent task, it may not use the alarm or the identification lamps, and does not have the priority to pass on road as prescribed in the preceding paragraph."
Ambulances are for patients, not for the convenience of medical facilities.
