Professor who was tempted not worthy of our sympathy

THE well-known professor who failed to resist the temptation of sex and money supplies much food for thought.
Liang Chunmao, a 70-year-old professor of music history, accepted 100,000 yuan (US$14,600) cash from and had sex with a female student surnamed Zou after promising to help her enter a doctorate program this year.
Liang was a professor at the Beijing-based Central Conservatory of Music.
However, Zou failed to get in because the other four professors on the panel evaluating doctoral candidates did not give her undeserved high scores.
It is said that Zou had badgered Liang after that, and Liang, after having returned the money he had received, finally confessed to the school's discipline inspection department in July.
Liang's rights to teach, enroll students and conduct academic research within the school had been revoked, as a punishment.
Many people expressed regret over Liang as he has always been regarded as one of the best teachers in the college both in terms of professional achievements and manners. He had also appeared on CCTV's popular "Lecture Room" program.
Regardless of his academic achievement, he is disqualified to be a teacher as long as he lacks basic morality.
A professor should have the moral fiber to resist the temptations.
