Shanghai should learn from Hangzhou about road manners

I am writing in reference to the article printed on June 27 entitled "Bad behavior affecting city road safety."

I understand you may have received many suggestions, which are probably very similar to the ones I have stated below, however I would like to express mine too.

Pedestrians should have the right to pass first when the traffic light is green; this is concerning crossing the road when cars are turning right on a red light, which can be done here. These cars never stop and it seems traffic police do nothing about it.

Pedestrians need to follow the rules and not walk across the road on a red light.

Bicycles and scooters must stop at red lights, this hardly ever happens and it causes many accidents, the traffic police need to be much stricter in these cases.

Hooting is still a big problem, even though a few years ago the local authorities had decided to fine people for excessive hooting, I guess they forgot about this completely, it?s now back to as it used to be, noisy and chaotic.

Cars never stop at zebra crossings. Hangzhou is a perfect example of how the police are trying to make car drivers respect this law; in Shanghai nobody cares and it can cause many injuries. The police should take the example of Hangzhou.

I hope many people have written and hopefully somebody can communicate these problems to the local authorities. This city needs more enforcement.
