Disparities must be rectified for social harmony

AS a developing country in major transitions, China has encountered unprecedented challenges during economic reform.

We see a yawning urban-rural wealth gap while our nation is struggling for a well-functioning social security system. The disparity will distress some people who remain in poverty.

Compared with our huge resource consumption, our domestic production is tiny, but our environment has been damaged.

If China continues the trend of using resources inefficiently, we will have to pay for rocketing resource prices and increasing natural disasters.

Besides the economic factors, pervasive corruption and deficient education resources also hinder national progress.

We have to resolve current problems as soon as possible to ensure social harmony and dynamic growth.
