Flood disaster caused by over paving, building
SATURDAY'S rainstorm, along with a similar one last year, should serve as a wake-up call to some of our government officials who put their personal wishes before natural law.
Disaster occurs when those officials break the balance of nature by turning wetlands and fields that once absorbed rainfall into asphalt-paved roads and areas that create runoff. Those officials are hot on real estate development, abusing land resources and squeezing green space.
Aided and abetted by some big-mouthed economists and "experts," these officials have single-mindedly focused on grabbing land, thus effectively destroying the ecology in many parts of the country.
The rainstorms in Beijing should awaken those officials and fill them with awe in the face of nature.
