Officials should swim to prove water is safe
IF an environmental protection official dares to swim in a river, you can bet the river is clean.
Chen Derong, Party secretary of Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, reportedly has asked local environmental protection officials to swim in any river citizens choose to prove that the water is not polluted.
Chen said he would not look at statistics from the local environmental protection bureau for signs or evidence of better water treatment.
For a long time, many government officials have indulged in statistical games to gloss over problems in reality.
Polluted rivers and lakes are everywhere, becoming an eyesore to the public and a threat to public health. It's exactly because of official indifference and inaction that they have persisted for so long.
Dear officials, please emerge from statistical games and swim in the rivers.
