2 Indian officials face the music
ACTION will be taken against two Indian officials if reports of their misbehavior on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow is proved, the country’s sports minister said yesterday.
Local media reported a top official of the Indian Olympic Association and a wrestling referee were arrested in the Scottish city in separate incidents and would appear in court today.
The IOA official, identified as IOA secretary general Rajeev Mehta, has been charged with drunk driving while the referee, named Virender Malik, has been accused of assault, television channels said adding the officials were not part of the Indian contingent at the games in Glasgow.
“If whatever the media have reported so far is right, definitely our ministry will take appropriate action in this regard,” Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal told reporters in New Delhi.
IOA President N Ramachandran said he was waiting for a detailed report before commenting on the issue.
