AVB, Hulk and Wu Lei banned for 2 matches as Oscar row escalates
SHANGHAI SIPG’s top scorers Hulk and Wu Lei were each given a two-match ban and 50,000 yuan (US$7,385) fine for wearing T-shirts in support of their banned teammate Oscar.
SIPG’s Portuguese manager Andre Villas-Boas was also handed a two-match ban and 15,000 yuan fine for “making improper comments on personal social media account,” according to Chinese Football Association’s statements issued today.
After Oscar was banned by CFA for eight matches for causing a brawl in their Chinese Super League match against Guangzhou R&F, Villas-Boas made a post in his personal social media account reading “355 career games; 5 years in the English Premier League; 47 appearances for Brazil; 70 goals. ZERO RED CARDS!!! 8 games suspended” together with a thumb-down.
Also, after SIPG’s 4-1 home victory against Henan Jianye last week, Hulk and national team striker Wu wore special T-shirts when celebrating in front of the fans. Hulk’s shirt read “NOTHING TO DO, NOTHING TO SAY”, the same phrases as a T-shirt Oscar wore earlier amid his trouble.
AVB, Hulk and Wu went to Beijing for a hearing on Wednesday under CFA’s request before the punishments were issued. The statements said Hulk and Wu “showed improper manners when greeting the fans after the match, and caused negative influence to the league.”
The club was also fined 100,000 yuan for failing to properly manage its players.
The bans mean SIPG will be having its coach and two major attackers missing in their next two away matches against Fabio Capello’s Jiangsu Suning and Changchun Yatai. Both Hulk and Wu had scored nine league goals this year.
SIPG is now second in the CSL table on 33 points – four points short from leader Guangzhou Evergrande.
