Austin gets 3-game ban for kicking goalkeeper
Southampton forward Charlie Austin will miss three games after accepting a Football Association charge for violent conduct.
The FA announced on Sunday that Austin had argued that the suspension 鈥 for kicking Huddersfield goalkeeper Jonas Lossl 鈥 was excessive, but that his case had been rejected.
Danish 鈥榢eeper Lossl was left with a bloodied face and a suspected broken nose following the incident in Saturday鈥檚 1-1 English Premier League draw at St Mary鈥檚 Stadium.
Austin, who scored his fifth goal in five starts before departing with a hamstring injury, avoided punishment for the incident during the match. 鈥淐harlie Austin will be suspended for Southampton鈥檚 next three matches after he was charged with violent conduct. He accepted the charge but argued the suspension was excessive. This was rejected by an Independent Regulatory Commission,鈥 the FA said.
Austin, 28, netted the opener midway through the first half, but was substituted in the closing stages and Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino confirmed he is likely to be sidelined for the remainder of the festive schedule regardless.
That, and the ban, means Southampton鈥檚 top scorer will miss the club鈥檚 next three fixtures 鈥 against Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Crystal Palace.
