Australian jockey dies
AUSTRALIAN jockey Carly-Mae Pye died yesterday from injuries sustained when the horse she was riding broke its front legs during a training run, throwing her head-first into the track. The 26-year-old Pye was riding on Monday in a jump-out, which simulates the start of a race in barriers in non-race conditions. Pye had severe head, neck and chest injuries and was put on life support in Rockhampton Base Hospital, where she later died. The horse had to be destroyed.
