Boat race protest fuels Games fear
THE head of the British Olympic Association fears the London Games could be marred by individual protesters after the boat race between Oxford and Cambridge universities was disrupted by an intruder jumping into the River Thames.
Trenton Oldfield was charged with a public order offense after appearing to deliberately cross the path of the rowers in Saturday's 158th Boat Race in a protest against elitism and privilege. With less than four months until London hosts the Olympics, the incident has raised concerns about the security at events. BOA chairman Colin Moynihan says during the games there is "likely to be someone similar to the idiot yesterday who causes major disruption ... all the security measures need to be put in place to minimize the chance of that happening."
