Borel eyes unique Triple Crown sweep
CALVIN Borel has guaranteed victory for his Kentucky Derby winning mount Mine That Bird in Saturday's Belmont Stakes in New York, a triumph that would make him the only jockey to sweep the Triple Crown on two different horses.
Borel, who rode 50-to-1 longshot Mine That Bird to an electrifying runaway win at Churchill Downs in Kentucky and then hopped aboard filly Rachel Alexandra to capture the Preakness Stakes, is back astride the gelding for the mile and a half Belmont. The Louisiana rider said on Tuesday that his confidence swelled after working out Mine That Bird, who closed fast to finish second in the Preakness two weeks back.
