Brazilian Menezes wins women's -48kg judo gold
SARAH Menezes won a historic first Olympic judo gold medal for Brazil's women in the under-48kg category at the ExCel Arena today.
The second-seeded Menezes dethroned reigning champion Alina Dumitru of Romania in the final.
Hungarian Eva Csernoviczki came back from being strangled unconscious in the quarter-finals to beat world number one Tomoko Fukumi for bronze.
And she was joined on the podium by her last eight tormentor, Charline van Snick of Belgium, who beat Argentina's Paula Pareto for her bronze medal.
