Bulgaria's PM in race for soccer prize
BULGARIAN Prime Minister Boiko Borisov may be facing nationwide labor protests against his reforms of the pension system, but his countrymen certainly appreciate his ball skills.
Borisov is running second in Bulgaria's annual Footballer of the Year survey, just behind Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov, and ahead of Aston Villa's playmaker Stiliyan Petrov and Twente's goalkeeper Nikolay Mihaylov. It's the first time that a non-professional player has appeared in the poll. The 52-year-old Borisov, who coached the national karate team before attacking politics, became prime minister in 2009 but continued to play regularly with his team Vitosha Bistritsa in amateur football league.
