Canada tops Mexico

CANADA defeated Mexico 10-3 in the World Baseball Classic on Saturday in Phoenix, Arizona, in a game marred by a bench-clearing brawl. The fights broke out after Canada's Rene Tosoni was hit by a pitch from Arnold Leon with Canada leading 9-3. Even when the melee ended, a full water bottle thrown from the crowd struck the face of a Canada coach. Canada is 1-1 in the tournament and needs to the beat the US in its next game to advance. Mexico was eliminated with the loss. Elsewhere, two-time defending champion Japan overpowered the Netherlands 16-4 yesterday and advanced to the championship round.
