China curls past Russia
CHINA beat Russia 8-5 yesterday to move closer to the semifinals of the world women's curling championship in Esbjerb, Denmark.
If China beat host Denmark, it will finish as the runner-up in the round-robin play of the 12-team tournament and advance to the semifinals. Sweden currently leads the championship with 8 wins and one loss followed by China with 7 wins and 3 losses. Denmark is third with six wins and three losses, with Canada and Russia in fourth and fifth place respectively.
"We're so happy because there are a lot of Chinese fans watching the games, but the media interest makes us nervous and puts more pressure on us," said China skipper Wang Bingyu.
