China moves on despite lopsided loss
RUSSIA remained undefeated at the women's volleyball world championship yesterday in Japan, beating China 25-22, 25-17, 25-19 in Group D action.
Despite the loss, China still advanced to the second round with a record of 2-3. Olympic champion Brazil defeated Italy 25-16, 25-19, 25-7 to finish the first round undefeated. European champion Italy dropped to 3-2. Brazil, the Netherlands, Italy and the Czech Republic all advanced from Group B. In Group C, the United States stuffed Cuba 30-28, 25-23, 22-25, 25-23 to remain undefeated at 5-0.
