China overpowers Turkey in women's volleyball event
China made a solid step to the quarterfinals in women's volleyball event of London Games by beating Turkey 3-1 today.
The Chinese, once champion in 2004 Athens Games and bronze medal winner in Beijing Games, win the match 25-20, 25-20, 29-31, 25-22.
China beat Serbia 3-1 in their opening match on Saturday as its injured key hitter Wang Yimei returned to court. Turkey, however, had a bitter loss to defending champion Brazil in a five-set thriller.
Besides Serbia, China will play in the same pool in London along with defending champion Brazil, world's No.1 U.S., Turkey and South Korea. Italy, Russia, Japan, Algeria, the Dominican Republic and host Britain make up the other six-team pool. The top four teams to emerge out of each pool will play the quarterfinals.
