Chinese ping-pong diplomacy player dies

ZHUANG Zedong, a former Chinese table tennis player known for his participation in Sino-US ping-pong diplomacy in the 1970s, died at the age of 73 today.
Zhuang Zedong was born in 1942 and he joined the Chinese National Table Tennis team as a teenager. He won numerous titles at table tennis events, including three-time world men's singles champion.
His chance meeting with the US table tennis player, Glenn Cowan, during the 31st World Table Tennis Championship, later referred to as Ping Pong Diplomacy, was considered in China to have triggered the thawing of the ice in Sino-US relations since 1949.
