Chinese rower Guo Linna banned for four years
CHINESE rower Guo Linna from Henan rowing team, who was expelled from the 11th Chinese National Games for testing positive for banned substance, will be banned for four years from competition, the Chinese Rowing Association announced in Beijing today,
Guo, 21, also faces a ban from next Chinese National Games and Cities Games as well as a fine of RMB 15000 (US$2,200).
The woman rower was found positive for 19-norandrostenedione in A sample in an out of competition test on October 12, on which her ban starts from.
Guo's coach Zhang Hui, who was involved in two positive cases, was disqualified as a coach for life. The first case happened in 2001, woman rower Zhou Xinrong from Henan tested positive and was disqualified from the Ninth Chinese National Games. Zhang was also fined RMB 15000.
Henan Rowing Association was given a warning.
On Oct. 18, the organizing committee of the 11th National Games decided to disqualify Guo from the games and her team's results were announced invalid. Guo's team took part in the semifinals of the lightweight women's double sculls and lightweight women's quadruple sculls on Oct. 17.
Later on Oct. 19, Henan rowing team announced to withdraw from the 11th National Games to reveal its determination in the fight against doping.
Henan sent about 30 rowers to take part in the on-going 11th National Games.
Guo was the first case of the kind in the on-going games.
On Oct. 22, a shooter from Inner Mongolia delegation, Li Jie, failed a doping test. The third positive case came on oct. 26 when it was announced that women's 100m race champion Wang Jing tested positive for metabolites of epitestosterone and testosterone.
Wang, from southeastern Fujian Province, was the gold medal winner in women's 100m final and second in 200m preliminary competition. Her results were stripped off and she was barred from the 200m finals scheduled on Oct. 25.
