Citizen meet to conclude

THE second Shanghai Citizen Sports Meet will conclude at Minhang Stadium on Sunday.
Unlike traditional sports meets, the citizen meet, held every four years, aims at getting as many residents as possible involved in both competitive and non-competitive activities. Having kicked off on April 23, the meet has held over 9,700 competitions in 65 sports items, featuring over 1.44 million participants. Archery, fencing, sailing, skating, triathlon and yoga were the new disciplines while cricket, handball, triathlon, sailing and rowing were the most popular among foreign participants, who formed teams to compete against local opponents. Some resident and grassroots players were also invited to interact or even compete against sports stars like Wang Liqin (table tennis) and Chang Hao (go), as well as attend international competitions like the Shanghai Rolex Masters and the IAAF Diamond League.
