City hammers West Ham in Nanjing

Record Manchester City signing Rodri made his debut and Raheem Sterling scored twice as the English Premier League champion came from behind to beat West Ham United 4-1 in Nanjing last night.

West Ham took the lead with a Mark Noble penalty before City leveled through David Silva, then Lukas Nmecha scored from the spot to give Pep Guardiola鈥檚 side the half-time lead.

England international Sterling scored a brace in the second half as West Ham鈥檚 defense went AWOL in the heat.

Guardiola fielded a mixture of first-team regulars and reserves with Silva leading the side and Kevin De Bruyne, who missed most of last season injured, a second-half substitute.

He was joined after the break by Germany winger Leroy Sane, who has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich.

Spanish international midfielder Rodri joined City earlier this month on a five-year deal from Atletico Madrid.

The 23-year-old officially became a City player a day after the La Liga club revealed the 70-million-euro (US$78.5 million) release clause in his contract had been triggered.

City鈥檚 arrival for the Premier League Asia Trophy had been delayed by two days because of an 鈥渁dministrative issue.鈥

But if it bothered the English champion it did not show, Sterling sealing a handsome win with composed finishes on the hour and again soon after.

In the other match in the exhibition tournament, Newcastle United was thrashed 0-4 by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In Perth, Western Australia, Anthony Martial鈥檚 69th-minute penalty completed the scoring in Manchester United鈥檚 4-0 win over Leeds United yesterday for its second consecutive victory on a preseason tour.

In its tour opener last Saturday, United beat the A-League鈥檚 Perth Glory 2-0.

United will have further pre-season games against Inter Milan in Singapore on Saturday and Tottenham Hotspur in Shanghai on July 25.
