David regains British Open
NICOL David, the squash world No. 1 from Malaysia, filled the only significant gap in her trophy cabinet when she regained the British Open title in London yesterday.
David claimed the trophy with an 11-6, 11-6, 11-6 win over Nour El Sherbini, the youngest ever finalist at age 16, and the first Egyptian woman finalist. For David it was her fourth British Open title but a much happier memory than her last appearance when she went out in the second round three years ago. Sherbini, who still studies six hours a day for her grade ten school exams, reached the final at an age more than a year younger than Pakistani legend Jahangir Khan, who was 17 when he played Australia's Geoff Hunt in a famous final in 1981.
