ROGER Federer will get a chance to ensure Switzerland retain its place in the Davis Cup world group when his team takes on Italy in the playoffs in September.
The world No. 2 had been expected to spearhead his nation's challenge in the first round against the US in March but withdrew due to injury. The encounter, which will be staged in Italy, will be one of eight playoff ties taking place from September 18-20. India, which qualified after Australia refused to travel to Chennai for security reasons and forfeited its zonal contest, will travel to South Africa.
