Dominguez returns after turbulent year
WORLD steeplechase champion Marta Dominguez is set to compete for the first time after a turbulent year that saw her beat doping and trafficking charges plus give birth.
Dominguez was among 14 people detained in December 2010 as part of the "Operation Galgo" doping investigation but a Madrid court cleared the 35-year-old Spanish athlete of doping and of trafficking performance-enhancing substances in July. Dominguez, the world 3,000-meter steeplechase champion in 2009, says the investigation "left no mark" on her as she prepares for the 2012 London Olympics with an upcoming meet in Spain on October 30. Dominguez, who gave birth to a boy in May, plans to run for a seat in the Spanish senate in November.
