Early-season firing
CZECH premier division club Banik Ostrava fired coach Karol Marko yesterday just one game into the new league season. Four-time champion Ostrava, which last lifted the title in 2004, lost 3-4 at home to Teplice on Saturday and the club said it had fired Marko because of poor form in preseason. "We have been conceding a terrible amount of goals," club manager Verner Licka said. Marko, in charge since the middle of last season, was replaced by Pavel Malura, manager of the under-21 team.
