Fan detained

A FOOTBALL fan in Romania was detained after running onto the pitch and hitting a player in the head, sparking other violent incidents that led to the abandonment of a Romanian league match. The mid-table clash between Petrolul Ploiesti and Steaua Bucharest was halted on Sunday after the violence. Prosecutors said yesterday that the fan, Dragos Petrut Enache, was being held for 24 hours after punching Steaua defender George Galamaz on the side of the head, knocking him to the ground, initiating an ugly mass brawl in the latter stages of the first half. Steaua reserve keeper Ciprian Tatarusanu suffered severe burns after he was hit by a firecracker, thrown from the stands, forcing the match to be abandoned, with the visitors leading 1-0. Galamaz was in hospital yesterday with a possible ruptured eardrum.
