JACQUES Martin has been fired as head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, the National Hockey League team said on Saturday. Martin, winner of the Jack Adams trophy as coach of the year in 1999 with the Ottawa Senators, paid the price for Montreal's sluggish start. Assistant coach Randy Cunneyworth was named interim head coach until the end of the season.
