Hernandez award

SEATTLE Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez posted only 13 wins during the season but was a clear winner of the American League Cy Young Award in voting announced on Thursday. The 24-year-old Hernandez, nicknamed "King Felix" when he was a teenager, compiled a 13-12 record for the lowly Mariners. However, he led the league in earned run average (ERA) at 2.27 and innings (249 2/3) and was second in strikeouts (232). The Venezuelan was named first on 21 of the 28 ballots cast by two writers in each AL city. Tampa Bay Rays pitcher David Price (19-6, 2.72 ERA) got four first-place votes and finished second in the balloting, ahead of New York Yankees hurler CC Sabathia (21-7, 3.18 ERA) who got the other three first-place votes.
