Horwill appeal
THE International Rugby Board will appeal a decision which cleared Australia captain James Horwill of stamping on British and Irish Lions lock Alun-Wyn Jones in the first test last weekend. The Dublin-based IRB yesterday said it had notified the Australian Rugby Union that it would appeal following an extensive review of the case. The appeal will be conducted following tomorrow's second test in Melbourne, with no firm date set. The original decision determined that there was no act of foul play. The ARU said it was "surprised and disappointed" by the IRB's intervention. The Lions won the first test 23-21 and can secure their first series win since 1997 with victory in Melbourne tomorrow.
