Injured Lorenzo out of Dutch GP
REIGNING world MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo will miss tomorrow's Dutch Grand Prix after fracturing his left collarbone in a high-speed crash in a wet second free practice at Assen yesterday.
The in-form Yamaha rider, on a hat-trick after wins in Spain and Italy, had posted the fastest time in the first practice session. But in the second session, with standing water making life difficult on the circuit, he lost control of his bike at Turn 13. He was flung over his handlebars, eventually climbing into a waiting ambulance nursing his left shoulder. Race organizers later confirmed the Spaniard had fractured his left collarbone and would miss tomorrow's seventh leg of the MotoGP season. He was due to fly to Barcelona for surgery today. Lorenzo is seven points behind fellow Spaniard and world championship leader Dani Pedrosa of Honda.
