Jiangsu park to host 2-day World Cup next month
THE IFSC Climbing World Cup will be held at Sanbai Lake Sports Park in neighboring Jiangsu Province on October 18-19, organizers announced in Shanghai yesterday.
Coming into its fifth year, the world’s top-level climbing event will feature climbers from 15 countries and regions, including some of the world’s best fast-climbing athletes. China will have four-time world championship winner Zhong Qixin leading its squad. The venue, located in Jiangsu FOHO New and Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, boasts China’s biggest artificial climbing rock. Climbing will become an Olympic event starting from the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo. “That will be a boost for the sport of climbing, which has a large following among youngsters,” said Li Zhixin, director of China Sports Bureau’s Mountaineering Sports Administrative Center.
