Kings, Rangers take openers
THE Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers both carried their National Hockey League regular-season success over St Louis and Washington into their second-round playoff series openers on Saturday.
Jonathan Quick, who shut out the Blues twice during the regular season, made 28 saves as the Kings defeated the Blues 3-1 in St Louis to take a 1-0 lead in their best-of-seven Western Conference series. The Kings won the season series against the Blues 3-1. In New York, Brad Richards and Chris Kreider scored 90 seconds apart in the third period to give the Rangers a 3-1 victory over the Capitals in their East second-round opener. New York beat Washington twice and lost once in the regular season.
