Kipsang shines in London race

WILSON Kipsang coasted to victory in the London Marathon yesterday, more than two minutes ahead of fellow Kenyan Martin Lel.

After storming ahead of the pack with around 10 kilometers to go, Kipsang completed the 42.2-km race in a time of 2 hours, 4 minutes, 44 seconds. Lel edged Tsegaye Kebede of Ethiopia in a sprint finish in front of Buckingham Palace on the Mall. World record-holder Patrick Makau dropped out less than half way through. Earlier, Mary Keitany defended her title as Kenyans swept the podium places, with world champion Edna Kiplagat second ahead of Priscah Jeptoo. Keitany finished in 2:18:37 for an African record.
