Li, Zheng bow out in first round in Madrid
LI Na and Zheng Jie lost in the first round at the Madrid Open on Sunday in Spain.
Fifth-seeded Li lost 3-6, 2-6 to American Madison Keys, who is ranked 62nd in the world. Zheng Jie, ranked 49th in the world, lost 2-6, 3-6 to Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Li, who was hoping to tune up her clay court game for the French Open, struggled to cope with Keys' powerful serveand failed to get her own serve working. Top-seeded Serena Williams overcame a slow start before running out a 7-6 (5), 6-1 winner against Yulia Putinseva.
