Liu delays arrival at National Games
FORMER Olympic and world champion hurdler Liu Xiang has delayed his visit to the 11th National Games in Jinan City, Shandong Province, for further preparation.
Liu's coach Sun Haiping formerly confirmed that Liu would arrive at Jinan before 6pm on Sunday as the Chinese track and field team stipulated. Yet his advisors insist that more preparation is crucial for Liu, who is recovering from a foot injury that disabled him from attending last year's Olympics.
Liu and Sun are still training at their base at Xinzhuang in Shanghai's Minhang District, according to Shanghai Morning Post today. Sun said the familiar environment will help him achieve peak condition.
The report said the arrival time was set to prevent athletes using stimulants. But Sun said he has been meticulous about every detail in Liu's life to prevent illness and taking unnecessary medicines.
Sun said even he makes Liu sleep with socks on in case he catches a cold.
Liu's first run is on Saturday, and tickets for his match have almost sold out in Jinan, according to the report. Some viewers even have bought all that day's tickets for track and field to get a glimpse of the comeback star.
