Loeb crashes out

CITROEN'S world champion Sebastien Loeb and his co-driver escaped unhurt from a heavy crash that ended their Acropolis Rally yesterday. The Frenchman, who leads the overall standings by 17 points after five wins this season, went off the road at high speed halfway through the 17-kilometer Klenia Mycenae seventh stage that opened the second leg. The car then rolled five or six times. "The car is destroyed. There's no chance to return tomorrow. The race is over," Loeb, who won in Greece last year, said after returning to the service park. Loeb had started the day just 21 seconds off Ford driver Mikko Hirvonen's overnight lead.
