Lu erases 2 world records


CHINA'S Lu Xiaojun set two world records to claim two gold medals in the men's 77-kilogram division at the World Weightlifting Championships in Goyang, South Korea, yesterday.

Lu lifted 174 kilograms on his third and final attempt in the snatch, beating the previous world record by 1kg. He also hoisted 204kg in the clean and jerk. His combined 378kg won another gold and broke the previous record by 1kg.

Olympic champion Sa Jae-hyouk of South Korea won gold in the clean and jerk after lifting 205kg. He placed fifth in the snatch and fourth in the total weight.

Lu came second in the clean and jerk with Su Dajin, also of China, taking the bronze after lifting 200kg. Tigran G. Martirosyan from Armenia took the silver in the snatch with 170kg and the total score with 370kg.

About 390 athletes from 71 countries are taking part in the championship.
